Bell Activity: What light phenomena (weird, natural light effects) have you heard of?

• • We will be doing a research project on a light phenomenon or technology of your choice

    • Work in partners

    • Due Tuesday, will present in class

    • Presentations will generate a few questions for the final

    • Your paper must be typed, 1-2 pages, and free from spelling and grammatical errors

    • Your paper must explain the phenomenon or technology and explain why it occurs using what we have learned in class and external resources.

    • Must include a bibliography with at least 3 credible (not wikipedia) sources.

    • May use any light phenomena of your choice (get my approval first), or one from the list below:

      • Lightning

      • The Northern Lights

      • Rainbows

      • Mirages

      • Sunsets / Sunrises

      • Lunar Eclipse / Red Moon

      • Green flashes / Green rays

      • Light pillars

      • Halos

      • The Tyndall Effect

      • The camera obscura

      • Telescopes

      • Cameras

      • The human eye

      • Laser eye surgery

      • Rayleigh Scattering (why the sky is blue)

  • Example of two-slit diffraction problems

  • Work time for yesterday's assignment
