    • Bell Ringer (spoken, not written): What is a chemical reaction?

    • Go over standards list, add to portfolio with table of contents

    • Mentos and Diet Coke lab

      • Introduction

        • This fountain is sometimes HUGE, but I've had lousy results so far. I want to figure out what we can change to make this better.

        • View mentos and diet coke fountain as is

      • Variables

        • Discuss what we could change in process that might result in taller fountains:

          • # of mentos,

          • type of mentos,

          • type of soda,

          • size of soda container,

          • crushed up mentos,

          • shake up soda,

          • temperature of soda,

          • drop method for mentos.

        • Get into groups, pick top two to investigate. For each, decide on 3 variations that you'll try to see what works best

      • Measurements

        • Discuss what we'll measure and how to determine which changes improve our results

          • Height - meter stick, measured from top of bottle to highest point of fountain, may need to duct tape several meter sticks together

          • Time - stopwatch, start when mentos drop and stop when fountain reaches highest point
