Bell ringer (written): Give examples of conduction, convection, and radiation.
Review conduction, convection, and radiation
Thermodynamics - the study of heat and heat transfers
1st law of thermodynamics: Conservation of energy - the total amount of energy in a system does not change. The energy can change types or change locations, but the amount of energy remains constant.
2nd law of thermodynamics: entropy - energy tends to spread out over time. This means that heat will not flow from something cold to something warm unless we do work to make this happen.
3rd law: It is impossible to reach a temperature of absolute zero.
