Bell Ringer: A 1.0 kg ninja star is thrown at a velocity of 500 m/s and is safely embedded in an enemy ninja at rest who is 65 kg. What is the final velocity of the enemy ninja and the ninja star?

    • Example problems:

      • Collision between atoms - conservation of momentum

      • Jet pack forces - impulse-momentum theorem

    • Begin work on asteroid project

      • Design, sketch, and mathematically verify the viability of a system to land a drilling probe on an asteroid which is headed for Earth.

      • Decide on a speed at which to leave Earth, use this to calculate the speed of the probe and asteroid after they collide, and use this to calculate the time period over which this acceleration must occur in order for the probe to survive.

      • See handout for specific information
