    • Bell Ringer (written): why is the periodic table arranged the way it is?

    • Reading from "The Disappearing Spoon"

    • Shortened Bohr models

      • Instead of drawing protons and neutrons, just write the element's symbol

      • Draw electrons in layers around the element's symbol

    • Periodic table electron activity

      • Divide up first 12 elements, draw shortened Bohr models of each

      • Arrange drawings as they appear in the periodic table

      • Patterns:

        • All elements in 1st row have 1 layer of electrons, 2nd row have 2 layers of electrons, etc.

        • All elements in 1st column have 1 electron in outer later, 2nd column have 2 electrons in outer layer, etc.
