Bell Ringer (written): why is the periodic table arranged the way it is?
Reading from "The Disappearing Spoon"
Shortened Bohr models
Instead of drawing protons and neutrons, just write the element's symbol
Draw electrons in layers around the element's symbol
Periodic table electron activity
Divide up first 12 elements, draw shortened Bohr models of each
Arrange drawings as they appear in the periodic table
Patterns:
All elements in 1st row have 1 layer of electrons, 2nd row have 2 layers of electrons, etc.
All elements in 1st column have 1 electron in outer later, 2nd column have 2 electrons in outer layer, etc.
