Bell Activity: Write a conservation of energy and/or momentum test question and have a partner answer it. Put both of your names on the paper and turn in when finished.

  • Drop the ball activity (due Monday)

      • We will be dropping 2 types of balls. Do the following problems for each:

        1. Calculate the initial energy of the ball (the instant you drop it)

        2. Calculate the velocity of the ball right before it hits the ground

        3. Calculate the energy of the ball at the top of the first bounce

        4. Calculate the velocity of the ball right after it bounces off the ground

        5. Calculate the % of energy that makes it through the first bounce (the efficiency of the bounce)

    • Notes about test

      • Very similar to practice problems

      • One problem will have an object with both potential and kinetic energy at one instant (e.g. Find the velocity of your dropped ball when it has fallen halfway to the floor)

        • The procedure from yesterday still works for this problem, the only difference is that one side of your conservation of energy equation will have 2 terms: one for PE and one for KE.

      • 5-6 problems, 50 points

      • Totally tubular theme!

    • Continue working on practice problems and ASK QUESTIONS!
