    • Bell ringer: What are curved mirrors and lenses used for?

    • Return quizzes

    • Mirror and lens terminology

      • Object - the physical "thing" that we are making a picture of, the source of the light rays

      • Object distance (do) - the distance between the object and the mirror or lens

      • Object height (ho) - how tall the actual object is

      • Image - the picture that we produce using the lens or mirror, the end-point of the light rays

      • Image distance (di) - the distance between the image and lens or mirror

      • Image height (hi) - how tall the image is

      • Focus - the point in space where parallel beams of light converge after contacting the mirror or lens

      • Focal length (f) - the distance between the focus and the mirror or lens

      • Center of curvature (C) - (for mirrors only) the center of the sphere that the mirror was cut out of, always twice as far from the mirror's surface as the focus is.

      • Concave - the surface curves away from the light source (like looking into a cave)

      • Convex - the surface curves toward the light source

  • Mirror and lens lab - due Monday

  • Final projects due tomorrow!!!
