    • Substitute teacher

    • Students will begin chapter 10 today. Please inform them that from here on out, notes will always be allowed on tests, so it would behoove them to take detailed notes. Today you will be outlining chapter 10, section 1 with them (pages 258-261). Have everyone get an environmental science textbook and read individual paragraphs to them, or have them alternate reading for the class. After each paragraph, have them decide on a short way to summarize that paragraph, or pick out the most important thing from the paragraph, and write it down in their notes. Write on the board whatever they decide. Please use (and have them use) the section headings in the book to help organizer their notes (see example below)

      • Chapter 10, section 1: What is biodiversity?

          • <important idea from 1st paragraph>

          • A world rich in biodiversity

            • <important idea from 2nd paragraph>

            • Unknown Diversity

              • <important idea from 3rd paragraph>

            • Loss of Diversity

              • <important idea from 4th paragraph>

          • Benefits of Biodiversity

        • Etc.

      • When you have all finished the notes, have students work on page 262: 1-5. This will be their homework if they do not finish in class.
