Bell Ringer: Steel has a density of about 8 g/mL. Why do boats made of steel float in water?

      • pure substance - element or compound. Any substance with a fixed ratio of atoms.

      • chemical formulas - the letters are the chemical symbols (off the periodic table), the numbers tell how many of each atom there are in a molecule (example: C6H12O6 means 6 carbons, 12 hydrogens, and 6 oxygens)
