Bell Ringer: What is sound?

    • Sound Lab

      • Students should do the sound station lab in groups of 2 or 3

      • Stations are set up around the room and labeled

      • Students will be given 3-5 minutes per station, then move to the next station. Students will have some time after they finish the stations to work on the questions that go with the lab.

      • Notes for the lab:

        • Students should strike tuning forks only on the soles of their shoes as hitting them on hard surfaces damages the tuning forks

        • Some stations do not require materials other than their own bodies.

        • For station 6, they should strike the tuning fork and then press the butt of the handle against their forehead.

        • For station 7, they need to pull the string on the cup-phone tight to hear one another.

    • Reading and problems

      • Once students have finished the lab, they are to begin reading pages 543-551

      • Have them do page 551: 1-10 to turn in tomorrow

    • Bill Nye - Light

      • If there is extra time, show students this DVD
