Bell Activity: What has to happen for reflection or refraction of light to occur?

Discussion of reflection and refraction

These behaviors only occur when light moves through a place where the index of refraction changes. This is called an optical barrier.

Light can move through different materials without reflecting or refracting, if both materials have the same index of refraction, such as Pyrex glass and vegetable oil, seen below:
