Bell Ringer

    • The two waves drawn below (see bell ringers in class for pictures) cross paths. Draw the wave that results when these waves occupy the same space at the same time.

    • Wave behavior notes, activities

      • Reflection

        • When a wave encounters a boundary, some of it's energy is reflected

        • The reflected wave (depending on the boundary it encounters) may be inverted

      • Standing waves

        • A wave pattern created when incident and reflected waves interfere in such a way as to create certain points on the medium that don't move (nodes) and certain points that always move the most (antinodes)

        • A standing wave, when you take a snapshot of it, still looks like a sine wave. The fast motion makes the whole thing look blurry, so just trace a sine wave shape over the standing wave to help identify the wavelength.
