Give an example of a wave that MUST have a medium to travel through. Why must it have a medium?
Activities
Slinky waves activity
Waves notes, practice, discussion
Types of waves
Transverse - wave motion and particle motion are perpendicular to each other
Longitudinal - wave motion and particle motion are parallel to each other
Wave measurements
wavelength (lambda) - the length of one wave (before it starts repeating) (meters)
Amplitude (A) - the maximum displacement from equilibrium of a wave (meters)
Period (T) - the time for one complete wave to go by a single point in space (seconds)
frequency (f) - the number of waves that go by a point in space each second (Hz, 1/sec)
wavespeed (v) - the rate at which a wave propagates through space (m/sec)
f = 1 / T
v = (lambda) / T
v = (lambda) * f
