  • Balancing Equations practice 3

        • Moles and conversion notes

          • Using the factor label method to convert between moles and grams (can also be used to convert between miles and km, inches and cm, pounds and kg, etc.)

          • Involves multiplying a measurement by a fraction whose value is one, made in a careful form.

          • Converting moles and grams:

            • 1. Write the given measurement and unit (moles or grams)

            • 2. Write a times symbol after the given measurement, and then a fraction bar

            • 3. The given unit (symbol only) goes at the bottom of the fraction on the right side, the wanted unit (symbol only) goes on the top of the fraction on the right side. These units will be either moles or grams.

            • 4. Find the molar mass of the compound in question, and write it down in the form of "1 mole = ______ grams"

            • 5. Fill in the fraction with the numbers from your molar mass statement. The moles part of the fraction will always get the number one.

            • 6. Solve the equation to get your answer.
