Bell Ringer: Write the names for NiCl2, MgCl2, and OCl2.
Ionic and covalent naming review
Covalent (All elements are from right side of "stair step" on PT)
Write names of elements, changing right-most element's ending to -ide
Use prefixes to tell how many atoms of each element are present (don't use mono- with the first element, just leave off the prefix)
Ionic (One element from left of stair step, one from right on PT)
Write names of elements, changing right-most element's ending to -ide
No prefixes
If the left element is a transition metal (middle of table)
"Reverse the cross" to find the charge on the transition metal
Write the charge in parentheses (using roman numerals) after the name of the transition metal.
Bonding practice 2
Just write formulas for ionic side
Follow directions as written for covalent side
